Highlights:
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, High Achieving Schools, 5 year Grant: This grant was the first awarded by the Foundation to a consortium of private, faith-based schools following an 18 month self-study, constituency focus group/review process.
Powell Center for Economic Literacy: Our school was one of 5 chosen nationwide to "tweek" a K-12 Economic Literacy Curriculum for effective use in an urban, mixed income setting within the context of the 5 year ele:VATE Economic Literacy Grant. Our staff extended the limits of the curriculum by designing an "Elfin Economy" to begin training preschoolers in the simple successes of "economic thinking." This curriculum is posted on the Powell Center website for teachers everywhere to use.
I gained great satisfaction and joy facilitating a collaborative staff project to identify Core Values that underscore the key areas of education: Social, Physical, Academic, Spiritual. Teacher teams defined which Values are to be taught in which grades, and identified best practices to move teaching into training. A key lesson that my 22 years has taught me is that teaching and training are very different things, with teaching leading to training only when the situation and people are very purposefully considered. This lesson is groundbreaking in terms of productivity and success and will be invaluable in all aspects of the career that awaits me. Please see my resume for an extensive listing of accomplishments.
Companies I like:
Medical Centers (St.Luke's, Shawnee Mission, KUMC), Community Health Programs/Agencies (John Knox Village), Travel/Resorts/Events, Hallmark, Higher Education (many local colleges and universities), Non-Profits/Churches (child relief, parenting, scholarship, medical support, are especially interesting), Private schools(primarily 6-12)
I am experienced in people, productivity, and pitfalls! Twenty-two years as executive director, administrator, principal, budget director, HR, academic leader and counselor is akin to being an entrepreneur: one's eyes can never shut, nor ears covered when trends are perceived, needs are expressed, perspectives offered, just or unjust criticism shared. Respect is the bedrock of a workplace upon which productivity is built. It is where employee's strengths and successes are championed and talents maximized, to the good of all. As a private school leader, I regularly faced challenges encountered by larger, profit-based industries. I hope to use the administrative/organizational people-oriented expertize I gained to contribute in multiple ways to the growth and value of an organization that cares what footprint it leaves behind.
