(1) Member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers(Membership by invitation only) (2) Certified mediator (3) Member of Iowa Association of Workers' Compensation Lawyers(Must be recommended and approved for membership) (4) Prepared and tried to completion more than thirty civil and criminal jury cases and more than one hundred and fifty workers’ compensation with a win ratio of 90%. (5) Preparation and trial of black mold (sick building) cases including both tort and workers’ compensation matters involving multiple claimants and plaintiffs. The workers’ compensation cases were successfully defended and the tort litigation was settled for nuisance value resulting in savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages and future claims. (6) Prevailed in a nationally recognized case, argued that states had no duty to protect college students from self-harm. Jain vs. State 617 N.W.2d 293 (Iowa 2000). (7) Successfully argued for adoption of the federal standard relative to the discretionary function exception to the waiver of sovereign immunity in a claim brought under Iowa Tort Claims Act, virtually immunizing park officials for the negligence premised on a failure to maintain, warn of dangers and repair potential hazards. See State vs. Sheldon, 644 N.W.2d 27 (Iowa 2002). (8)Successfully defended one of the earliest mental/mental claims before the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner establishing the legal causation standard (extraordinary stressors). See Des Granges vs. State of Iowa and Department of Human Services. (9)Litigation of multiple malpractice birth injury cases (6 total) representing an aggregate exposure of more than twelve million dollars and settlement of all six cases, resulting in savings to the State of Iowa in excess of eight million dollars. (10) A successful negotiator of several hundred complex cases including medical malpractice birth injury cases resulting in savings of millions of dollars of potential exposure.
